I recently bought this product for my eleven year old daughter and she loves it. I myself, could not stop looking at the intricate pictures and flaps. I do feel though that its predecessor, Egyptology: Search For the Tomb of Osiris is just the bit more beautiful but a stunning read, nonetheless!

This book is meant to be written by a Miss Emily Sands in 1927, it is supposed to be her journal of the things that she discovered while in Egypt. - however there is a small note that says that readers should decide if she existed or not!

Anyway the book is hardback, with spiral bound pages inside, and is laid out as if it is a journal with drawings of people, tombs, maps etc all done in watercolours. The font throughout is that of an old typewriter, and all the pages are a brown colour as if aged with time. This took me by surprise as I was expecting a glossy book.

However on closer inspection, it is an excellent source of facts and figures.
It is divided into 3 main sections
1. The history of Ancient Egypt - which has 9 sub-divisions of origins, the old kingdom, Memphis and Saqqara, The great Pyramids, middle kingdom,Pyramid texts and tombs, an ancient egyptian tale, new kingdom, and valley of the kings.
2.Life and culture in Ancient Egypt, - includes, the Nile, work, games, palace life, travel, and hieroglyphs
3. Gods and Religion

Each of these sub-divisions has an activity at the end of it. These are more like a short quiz question to do with that section, they are not how to make things, but just a short idea on what you have just read.

The back of the book contains some stickers which are quite glossy and nice.

The book has 78 pages.

I like this book as it has provided more than enough information for my 9 yr old to do his Egyptian project from. It is also written so that he can pick it up and open and read it at any point and there is something interesting - which he does without me prompting! The spiral binding means it lays open flat on the table which is great when copying out sections, and overall the more I look at this book the more I love it. The book is aimed at children - anyone up to about 14 I'd say, however I as an adult also find it fascinating.

I gave this book to one of my grandsons for Christmas. He is twelve about the right age for this book. He enjoyed the pictures and the content and has since asked to borrow other books of mine. A result.
